The closest thing to a dive bar in upscale Green Hills, Corner Pub packs in the beer drinkers most nights of the week both in the chatter-filled interior and on the more laid-back outdoor deck. Although the lone TV set on the deck and several inside are invariably tuned to an athletic contest, this is much more saloon than sports bar. Until about 8 pm or so the crowd is more Baby Boomer-ish, with business commuters stopping off on their way home from work. Later the twenty-somethings take over. The standard-issue pub grub won’t make you want to stop here just for the food, but certainly the selections all go well with beer, including the gargantuan cheeseburgers and the signature hot chicken chunks. In summer 2006, the more upscale Corner Pub Midtown opened in midtown’s former Granite Falls space, with the addition of lunchtime meat-and-threes. 4109 Hillsboro Pike. 298-9698.
